OmschrijvingHailing from Wales, 25 Yard Screamer formed in 2002 after Donal Owen and Matt Clarke supported Nick James at a gig in Bracknell, who was then showcasing his solo project. Their first album, The Pictures Within, was released in 2003, followed by Approaching From An Oblique Angle in 2004, both of which hinted at the progressive influences that would soon come to the fore. With "Cassandra" in 2007, they received critical acclaim in progressive rock and rock circles and were compared to bands such as Marillion, Rush, Porcupine Tree and Metallica. "Blacklight", a song from the album, was selected as one of the best 100 songs of 2007 by Classic Rock magazine. The following 2011 album, "Until All Are One", showed a darker side to the band while maintaining their progressive leanings. During the recording of their 2013 concept album, Something That Serves To Warn Or Remind, Tom Bennett was invited, joining the band permanently after contributing keyboards and orchestrations to the sessions. In 2016, the band`s sixth studio album, "Keep Sending Signals", was released, which contained four brand new tracks and four reworks of very early material. Tom left the band after the album tour, and the band then returned to their original trio lineup. The 2019 album, “Natural Satellite,” was more experimental. The track "The Storyteller" featured Magenta`s Rob Reed as a guest musician on keyboards. After the album`s release, Donal left the band to pursue other projects. In 2022, remaining members Matt and Nick released "Nemesis" with themes of modern miscommunication and redemption. To mark the anniversary, both decided to rework and re-record their debut album. Titled “The Memory Cheats,” it offers an interesting, modern vision of the band’s early creative period. The band performed live at various festivals including Progeny, Cambridge Rock Festival, Weyfest, Danfest, Prog For Peart and Winter`s End. In 2023, touring drummer Chris Hinchey joined the band as a permanent member. Matt Clarke commented: "The album is a reissue/reimagining of our debut album. It was a revelation to revisit these songs that were written in the early days of the band. We met as friends and musicians. Lots of laughter and enthusiasm surrounded us writing at a time that carried a lot less responsibility for all of us. Donal, Nick and I wanted to record the songs to check what we were doing. Essentially we created an album of demos. Very much a live one -recorded with some overdubs, we then created a cover and made copies for family and friends. Fifty copies were produced and are now something of a rarity. The primitive nature of the recordings may have clouded our opinions of some of the songs. The songs were more sophisticated than we originally thought, and we were really surprised at how powerful they actually were. Some of my early lyrics may have had a certain naivety to them, but they seem to get the message across. It was wonderful to relive these songs, adding new lyrics and arrangements. With the benefit of time and experience, the songs now stand better alongside our best work."
