Nieuws MEDEDELING !!

Omschrijving | The 1980s haven`t been good for any progressive
rock band rooted in the late `60s to early
`70s. Ange was no exception and most of their
`80s production is very weak, but Fou! came as
a surprise. The first half is very typical mid-
`80s French pop/rock (implying badly aging
production values) with singer Christian
Decamps trading his `70s trademark theatrical
phrasing for a more style-of-the-day
performance. On the other hand, side B featured
the title track, a 20-minute suite, the story
of citizens calling themselves "crazy" getting
rid of politicians (the "puppets"). Suddenly,
songs get a little more complicated,
instrumental passages go further than the
cliche guitar solo, pieces segue, and a woman
screams her pleasure at the end. The whole
thing is done with humor and it is obvious
Decamps and co. had a lot of fun recording this
track. Even though the overall sound remains
very `70s and the writing is as square as can
be, Fou! has its moments, salvaging it from
Ange`s very average `80s production.
